Jaguar product suite encourages development and usage of independent client or 3rd-party applications

Transite Technology, a leading provider of logistic and shipping cost-management software and services, has introduced the industry’s first “transportation application store” for its growing Jaguar Transportation Management Suite of products—a set of industry-unique transportation management products for carriers, 3PLs and shippers. Jaguar products deliver the core functionalities of a full transportation management solution —ranging from contract management, dispatch and audit– while enabling the customer to fine-tune their transportation systems to their specific business needs by building their own transportation management applications or purchasing independent 3rd-party products.

The Jaguar Suite is currently comprised of Jaguar Transportation Development Platform and Jaguar Contract Manager.

Third-party applications found on the storefront include:

CarrierImport - CSV/Text file import to define partner carrier service areas within Contract Manager

LTLPricing/RateShipment – simplified VB.net interface for calling Contract Manager web service (programmed and unit tested). Upgrade of working VB.ASP script.

LTLRatingTools.xls – a family of pricing (and routing) Excel add-on functions. Provides a very efficient and simple alternative for sales reps that need to add rates to spreadsheets provided by clients.

LTLRatebase – MS-SQL Rate Calculator for SMC3 Czarlite, Middlewest Motor Freight Bureau, Rocky Mountain Motor Tariff Bureau.

LTLRateAdjust – VB.Net product allows traffic department to specify flat CWT or percentage adjustments for deliveries to certain zip codes and/or cities. Freight class and weight ranges can be specified and can be applied to any rate base by end-user.

FreightPoints.Net – Design for a multi-modal freight routing web site and web service which supports carrier partnerships and promotes their coverage & services.

“Too many companies have to build around the capabilities of their technologies,” said Chris Leenhouts, Senior Consultant for Logi 6 Technologies, which develops many of Jaguar’s 3rd-party applications. “Transite’s products cover all of the transportation fundamentals while allowing customers to build or buy applications to help solve problems unique to their businesses.”

At the beginning of every year we start hearing the same familiar news: “FedEx Announces General Rate Increase of 5.9%” or “Old Dominion Files a GRI of 4.4% effective January 18th”. A General Rate Increase is the average amount in which a carrier increases its prices. The increase is usually to cover the increase of tariffs or labor costs. The definition of a GRI is pretty straight forward, but how it affects your company is not so simple.

For example, is a GRI that averages 4% in reality, a 12% increase to you because of your shipping needs? Seeing how inbound and outbound transportation costs can account for up to 50% of a shipper’s logistics expenses it’s worth taking the time to digest and understand the impact of GRIs on your business.

So, the annual GRI’s don’t have to be the proverbial thorn in your company’s side. Rather, they can be yearly reminders to examine your carrier selections, rate structures and processes to optimize your transportation management function.

We just released a new whitepaper that looks at the importance of taking a macro view of transportation management in the context of supply chain management. In addition to our views, we also developed the paper with two experts who have deep experience into the benefits and methodologies of integrating transportation into the corporate supply chain practice.

Dr. Robert Handfield, Bank of America University Distinguished Professor of Supply Chain Management, North Carolina State University and Editor Emeritus of the Journal of Operations Management

His experience also includes senior roles within product and purchasing management.

We all agreed that there is much current talk about the importance and necessity of integrating the transportation function into the Supply Chain but few companies had successfully tackled the issue.

A lot of money is at stake.

For steps on how to approach this issue, please click here.

We’ll be back on the blog in January 2010. Meanwhile, have a wonderful Holiday and much success in the New Year.

With the recent severe economic downturn, there is a growing realization of the high volume of money wasted associated with transportation expenses

RALEIGH, NC – December 9, 2009 – Transite Technology, a leading provider of supply chain transportation and logistics management software and services, and two industry experts are offering advice and perspectives to companies seeking to more effectively integrate transportation into their supply chain practice.

“Transportation expenses and revenues are functionally siloed in most organizations so it’s been difficult to see a full view of the impact dollars associated with transportation have on the bottom line,” said Geoff Comrie, CEO, Transite. “Optimized integration is a challenge that few have met, and today’s companies have various levels of transportation integration sophistication.”

Here are the Five Levels of an Integrated Supply Chain and en example of each:
1)Ad Hoc - Physical distribution and shipping process not defined.
2)Defined - Internal process for shipping and carrier selection defined and documented.
3)Managed - Policies and processes for shipping defined and implemented.
4)Leveraged - Aligned transportation strategy agreed to across all business units with single portal for access.
5)Optimized - Customer marketing channels aligned with all transportation providers and decision-making process documented.

For complete details and further discussion, please register and download – at no charge – Transite’s whitepaper, “Integrating Transportation into Your Supply Chain” by clicking here.

This whitepaper was written by Transite along with:
Dr. Robert Handfield, Bank of America University Distinguished Professor of Supply Chain Management, North Carolina State University and Editor Emeritus of the Journal of Operations Management

Charlie Bernard who recently retired from Caterpillar Inc after more than 30 years of service where he spent more than 12 years in leadership positions within their logistics and supply chain management functions.

In November, we went to Anaheim, Calif., to exhibit and attend the Intermodal Expo/TransComp Exhibition. While some attendees mentioned that the “numbers” seemed smaller than last year, we were consistently busy in our booth talking to current customers and prospects.

We launched a new product at the show, our Jaguar Transportation Development Platform and were very happy with the feedback. Jaguar TDP is a transportation management platform for carriers, 3PLs and shippers. Our new product delivers the core functionality of rating and pricing management—including rating, database management and user security—while enabling customers to build their own transportation management applications. As it turned out, people who truly understood current industry-wide TMS products loved our platform’s flexibility, management power and cost-effectiveness.

Overall, our booth also had a strong mix of serious shoppers from 3PLs, shippers and carriers—just like the conference promoters promised! And, we always love the chance to have face-to-face conversations with all of the people with whom we typically engage by email or phone. For those of you who were at the show, our warmest thanks for stopping by and we’ll see everyone at the next conference.

RALEIGH, NC—November 10, 2009—Transite Technology, a leading provider of logistic and shipping cost-management software and services, has introduced Jaguar TDP, an industry-unique transportation management platform for carriers, 3PLs and shippers. Jaguar TDP delivers the core functionality of rating and pricing management—including rating, database management and user security—while enabling the customer to “self-customize” by building their own transportation management applications.

“Customers have been seeking a software development framework in which to create their own transportation applications,” said Geoff Comrie, CEO of Transite. “We deliver the fundamental functionality while giving customers the flexibility to build and scale their own transportation applications to adapt to their changing businesses.”

Jaguar TDP evolves as needs change—initially can be used as standalone system, and then integrated in a deliberate manner component by component.

“Until now, there‟s been a „one size fits all‟ mentality within the TMS market with most solutions being closed-loop, proprietary systems,” said Chris Leenhouts, Senior Consultant, Logi 6 Technologies. “This platform covers the big fundamentals and allows customers to build applications unique to their businesses.”
Jaguar TDP, rolled out to a limited number of customers in March, 2009, has been in development for almost two years. Though Jaguar TDP is a completely new product from “code-forward”, it is founded on market feedback of Transite’s proven Contract Manager offering. Contract Manager was introduced in early 2004, with a new version being introduced in late 2005.

Matheson Trucking Inc., with a fleet of over 2,700 tractors, trailers, and aircraft ground support equipment, as well as maintenance facilities across the Western United States, utilizes Jaguar TDP to supply the core technology in the company‟s rate and price management system.

“Particularly with the economy, the carrier market is increasingly competitive market,” said Laurie Johnson, COO of Matheson Trucking. “We believe Transite‟s platform will not only strengthen our internal business processes, but will enable us to grow our customer base more efficiently while providing the flexibility to add new capabilities that customers will soon demand.”
