A few weeks ago, we had the opportunity to be a guest speaker the Parcel Forum 09 in Chicago. The hour-long discussion focused on how companies lose money in two areas of shipping transactions: ones that straddle parcel and LTL, and those between LTL and TL. Tough rate negotiations will not get you far without technology-based processes to enable data-based decisions.
Massive ‘grey areas’ lie between parcel and LTL as well as between LTL and TL and you can save five to ten percent just by applying better management to these areas. Depending on your volume and mix, this could be a healthy chunk of change. The conference organizers designated the presentation for those who have a “moderate to advanced” level of transportation knowledge.
